ISNCC is excited to be able to offer the following pre-conference educational workshops at the 16th ICCN.

Models of Cancer Survivorship Care and Patient Navigation, Utilization of a Care Plan and Engaging the Primary Care Community: Perspective from the Lance Armstrong Foundation

This pre-conference workshop sponsored by LIVESTRONG encourages
dialogue between cancer survivorship researchers and clinicians in an
effort to raise awareness of survivorship issues and discuss tools for
survivorship care. This pre-conference workshop will feature
leading-edge survivorship researchers and clinicians who are actively
addressing survivorship issues through their work with the LIVESTRONG
Survivorship Center of Excellence Network. Also, session will provide
a forum to discuss in greater depth some key questions regarding care
plans.
Draft Agenda:
- Didactic session about what survivorship looks like in U.S, including summary of IOM report recommendations.
- Panel
discussion of LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center of Excellence Network
members to present multiple models of survivorship care, including role
of nurse and other professionals in these models.
- Small group discussions about challenges and opportunities for translation to own countries.
- Small Groups report back to larger group.
- Discussion of inception of treatment summaries and care plan, identifying purpose and ways to target different audiences.
- Small group demonstration of the LIVESTRONG Care Plan.
- Overview of web-based survivorship resources that can be utilized globally.
Evidence-Based Practice
Hosted by the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)

This workshop will introduce participants to the concepts and strategies necessary to move towards evidence-based practice. The target audience is oncology nurses who have minimal or no research knowledge but who are interested in understanding more about evidence-based practice. The symposium will include both plenary and small group sessions. Main areas of research focus on investigating communication between cancer patients and their health care providers, oncology nurses’ work life and evaluating patient education strategies.
Advancing Palliative Care for Cancer Patients Internationally
Hosted by the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC)

The workshop will introduce the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) International curriculum to participants. A description of past and future efforts in providing palliative care education to oncology nurses internationally will also be reviewed. The workshop will cover modules starting with an introduction to palliative care, then moving on to pain management, symptom management, communication, loss, grief and bereavement, and final hours of life. On completion of this workshop, participants will be considered an ELNEC trainer and will be qualified to teach others this content. Writing for Publication Masterclass
Hosted by the European Journal of Oncology Nursing (EJON)
Alex Molassiotis
The masterclass will provide delegates with expert advice and tuition on writing for publication in cancer nursing journals. It will demystify the process of preparing a manuscript for submission to a journal, and will discuss how the manuscript should be structured, what should be included, and how to remain enthusiastic during the process. Participants are encouraged to bring their ideas forward for discussion and advice. Professor Molassiotis, Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Oncology Nursing, will cover the following topics during the masterclass:
- The role of journal Editors in the publication process
- The peer-review process and how it works
- Preparing a paper for submission to a scientific journal
- Tips on how to write successful papers
The masterclass will be useful for all prospective authors who aim to publish their work in scientific journals, and to published authors who wish to brush up on their writing skills.
