2) Culture and Heritage PERANAKAN TRAIL (with food tasting) Join us on a colourful journey into the history, lifestyle and unique character of the Peranakan Babas (the men) and Nonyas (the women)…….A walk through a spice garden – the original site of the first Botanic Gardens will uncover the intricacies of spices and herbs that go into Peranakan cookng. A fascinating display of Peranakan costume, embroidery, beadwork, jewellery, porcelain, furniture, craftwork will provide a glimpse into the fascinating culture of the Nonyas and Babas. A visit to the bustling enclaves of Katong and Joo Chiat, well known for the rich cultural mix, with residents from various communities, showcases the rich and baroque Peranakan architecture. FOOTSTEPS OF RAFFLES This tour traces Raffles’ vision of Singapore to become a vital international port and trading center for the Far East. Your trip down memory lane begins with a visit to the Raffles Landing Site, where Sir Stamford Raffles is believed to have first set foot in 1819, and to an exhibition that traces the history of the Singapore River. Next is a stop at Raffles Hotel, a hive of activity for the high-society in the 1800s. Here enjoy either an Afternoon Tea Buffet with English and local delicacies OR light refreshment, see choice below. The tour continues with a bumboat cruise down Singapore River. These hardy vessels were once used to shuttle cargo but today, they steer us through a kaleidoscope of historic Singapore River and harbour images set against the towering skyline of the modern business district. Set off at Clarke Quay, a riverside festival village and visit a Pewter Gallery to discover the history of pewter and role of tin in the development of Singapore as a trading port. Leave the city behind as we head north to Mandai for a visit to one of the world’s top and most beautiful zoos. The Singapore Zoo** is spread over 28 hectares and is haven to over 3,600 mammals, birds and reptiles including some rare and endangered species. It uses natural barriers like streams, rock walls and vegetation to separate animals from visitors creating an “open zoo” effect. You will get to experience this new concept in animal keeping highlighted by beautiful landscaping and very few cages from the comfort of your tram.

Head to where the action is! Nothing beats watching a thrilling horse race at the Singapore Turf Club. The 81.2 hectares Singapore Racecourse ranks among the premier racecourses and boasts some “firsts” like the El Toro-Zoysia grass track and state-of-the-art technology such as the patron entry system, a glass-sided horsewalk, which goes through the grandstand and connects the parade ring to the racetracks. Racing is conducted in the evenings under spectacular floodlights on Friday, and in the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy dining* by the River, Singaporean’s latest sunset haunt. After dinner enroute to the World’s largest fountain, take in the beautiful sight of the central business district via Benjamin Sheares Bridge. Next, advance to Bugis Street**, our guide will take you for a stroll at the night market or ‘pasar malam’ where you may chance upon bargains you never imagine. Our last stop for the evening is at Raffles Hotel for a sample of Singapore’s very own concoction, ‘the Singapore Sling’. The World’s First Night Safari**, set in 40 hectares of secondary jungle adjoining the Singapore Zoo, will unfold the mystery and drama of the tropical jungle after dusk with stunning effect.
See a myriad of nocturnal animals, from fierce predators to timid forest dwellers, in their natural habitat under subtle moonglow lighting. Roam the jungle in the complete safety and comfort of your tram which takes you through the East and West Loop passing by a large reservoir and weaving through selected habitats designed specifically to replicate the natural environment from the Himalayan Foothills to the Southeast Asian Rainforest and Indian Sub continent. On completion of the tram ride, your tour guide will lead you on a walking trail where you will be able to view some of the animals at closer quarters.

Discover the rich historical beginnings of Chinatown at the Chinatown Heritage Centre. The Centre takes you back to a different time in the history of the area and immerses you in the life of the early Chinese immigrants. Today’s Chinatown come alive with the hustle and bustle of the Night Market. After dinner, you’ll have an opportunity to wander along the narrow lanes and test your bargaining skills with the street vendors. Then, hop onto a Trishaw for a ride through Chinatown to Clarke Quay. There you’ll board a bumboat for a cruise along the Singapore River. Disembark at the Esplanade where your wonderful evening comes to an end.

6) Across The Border
JOHORE BAHRU
Drive across the causeway linking Singapore and Malaysia. After immigration formalities, we commence our tour of Johore Bahru with a visit to a handicraft center to observe batik painting. This is followed by a visit to Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque before arriving at a Kampong. The final stop will be at a Muslim Cemetery with a view of the exterior of The Royal Mausoleum before proceeding back to Singapore.
