Corporate Partnership

ISNCC has a consistent and successful record of international activities that impact communities by advancing the knowledge and skills of cancer nurses.  We have accomplished this through partnerships with corporations as well as other cancer organizations.

A sample of these activities includes the following:
  • International tobacco cessation workshops and online programming that educates up to 1,000 nurses per month
  • International symptom management program that supports practice change and improves quality of care through the development of worldwide standards
  • International chemotherapy survey development and distribution to five countries in Latin America and Asia
  • Cultural adaptation and translation of cancer materials ensuring education is available irrespective of where the nurse practices, currently reaching thousands of nurses worldwide
  • International breast cancer train the trainer workshops, reaching worldwide nurses with limited experience in this area to support their learning and allow them to train others in their home countries, including China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Zambia
  • Biennial International Conferences on Cancer Nursing (ICCN), hosting up to 1000 nurses at each conference
  • International nursing leadership program and research workshops, reaching up to 1000 nursing leaders worldwide
  • International palliative care curriculum to reach nurses without access to palliative care programs in their countries, taught to over 5,000 nurses worldwide
  • Quarterly publication of the International Cancer Nursing Newsletter (ICNN), accessed by over 10,000 nurses worldwide
  • International policies and position statements on a range of topics critical to cancer control, including pain, cervical screening and tobacco, accessed by over 10,000 nurses worldwide
Greta Cummings, RN, PhD, ISNCC President, has noted that “The potential for impact from our educational programs is immense.  Our programs prepare nurses to make a real difference in their home countries.  One nurse from Brazil who participated in the Breast Cancer Train the Trainer Program in returned home and educated over 900 nurses in only one year!"

ISNCC invites corporations to fund, promote, or co-develop initiatives that support specific goals that advance cancer nursing and patient care worldwide.  Cancer nurses globally need access to evidence-based practice, continuing education and opportunities to advance their knowledge and clinical practice.

Smoking Cessation Intervention Program for Nurses in China
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
Pfizer Foundation
April 2011

The International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) is pleased to announce that the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in partnership with ISNCC, has been selected as a grant recipient by the Pfizer Foundation for a the following project: ‘Adapting a Smoking Cessation Intervention Distance Learning Program to Educate Nurses in China.’

China has the largest population of smokers in the world. In support of the tenets of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, major tobacco control efforts by healthcare professionals are underway but there has been limited attention to enhancing the role that the 1.65 million nurses in China can play in curbing the tobacco-related epidemic. ISNCC will partner with Professor Linda Sarna, University of California, Los Angeles, and Dr. Stella Bialous, President, Tobacco Policy International in this effort to adapt a Web-based educational program to increase nurses’ knowledge and skills in conducting tobacco cessation intervention. A grant from Pfizer Foundation is funding this innovative intervention using information technology which will be tested by 1000 practicing nurses in Beijing. Dr. Xiao Nong Zou, Chief, Office for Tobacco Control, National Office for Cancer Prevention and Cancer Control, Cancer Institute and Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Professor Sophia Chan, Head, School of Nursing, University of Hong Kong, will serve as key consultants. A special page on the Tobacco Free Nurses website will include nurse-tailored translated materials and a twenty minute video Web-cast based on the Rx for Change curriculum© to educate nurses on tobacco cessation interventions.

January 2011

The International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a 2010 grant recipient of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation's Bridging Cancer Care initiative.  The collaborative 2 year project includes a series of capacity-building Tobacco Cessation Leadership Workshops in the Czech Republic to educate nurses on advances in tobacco control, cancer prevention, treatment and care.

The major identified needs in the Czech Republic are three-fold: (1) to address the epidemic of tobacco use and the resulting cancers in the Czech Republic, (2) to engage nurses in the fight against tobacco and cancer prevention, and (3) to build capacity among nurses in the Czech Republic to continue working on smoking cessation and thereby cancer prevention initiatives. The project seeks to educate nurses on advances in tobacco control, cancer prevention, treatment and care.  The proposed project is a four-phased, two-year project that will build capacity among nurses in the Czech Republic to enhance their engagement in tobacco control and thereby cancer prevention.  The ISNCC Project Team will be led by Dr. Linda Sarna, Professor, University of California Los Angeles School of Nursing, and Dr. Stella Bialous, Tobacco Policy International.  Further, ISNCC will work with the European Oncology Nursing Society and the Czech Oncology Nursing Society to further this important project.
