The ISNCC Cancer Patient Safety Framework workshop was developed to address the growing challenge of adherence to oral therapies and will allow participants to:
- Gain an understanding of the impact of oral therapies in oncology care;
- Discuss the risk factors associated with over and under adherence to therapy; and
- Implement tools within their practice to promote adherence.
Members of the working group presented the latest research on adherence to oral therapies at the 17th International Conference on Cancer Nursing (ICCN). The workshop was conducted in English with simultaneous translation to Czech, Hungarian and Polish. By attending this workshop, oncology nurses were equipped with the knowledge and tools to promote adherence to oral therapies, therefore improving quality of life and providing cost effective, safe and quality care to promote positive patient outcomes.
Although the first phase of this program was a great success in Easter Europe, there continues to be a need to expand this program internationally. In the second phase of this project, the train-the-trainer learning modules on adherence to oral therapies were reviewed, updated, introduced at the 18th ICCN in Panama City, Panama in September 2014 and recorded, in hope to provide nurse from around the world access to these valuable resources.
