|World No Tobacco Day 2015|
The Asian Oncology Nursing Society (AONS), Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO), European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS), International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) and Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) issued a joint statement to celebrate World No Tobacco Day 2015.
World Health Organization (WHO) marks of every year as World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocate for policies to reduce tobacco consumption. For 2015, WHO is calling on everyone to work together to end the illicit trade of tobacco products.
Tobacco Use and WNTD 2015 Campaign
The illicit trade of tobacco products is a global concern - many tobacco products consumed worldwide are illegal. Illegal tobacco trade poses a concern for both high and low-income countries, and may result in significant health, legal, economic and governance issues.

Oncology Nurses and Tobacco Control
Oncology nurses play an important role in addressing health priorities around the world, including smoking cessation interventions and health education to prevent tobacco use. See an excerpt of the 'Joint Statement: World No Tobacco Day' below:
"Oncology nurses must offer patients evidence-based smoking cessation interventions since research validates that continuing tobacco use after a diagnosis of cancer is associated with a poorer prognosis and poorer treatment outcomes.
