The International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) joins the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in celebrating International Nurses Day.

The activities of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) aim to support nurses, globally, in their contributions to improving care, reducing disparities and promoting social justice throughout the cancer care continuum as experienced by individuals, families and communities.

This year’s International Nurses Day focuses on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically on Goal 3 “Good Health and Well-being: ensure heathy lives and promote well-being at all ages”; however, nurses can impact all SDGs. Therefore, ISNCC would like to take this opportunity to re-affirm its commitment to build and strengthen nursing leadership in achieving the SDGs. ISNCC’s projects promote cervical cancer screening, breast health and tobacco control, and support best-practices in treatment and palliative care. These projects provide evidence for the development and implementation of national and international policies that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. Resources and educational materials resulting from these projects can be found at ISNCC’s website (

Worldwide, nurses and nursing organizations possess a wealth of knowledge and compassion. ISNCC will continue to build leadership in nursing to ensure that the contributions of nurses are central and vital to policy development and implementation, and are included in national plans to reach the SDGs.

Congratulations to all nurses who are, in small and large ways, making a difference in cancer care.
