ISNCC and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation have partnered to deliver a collaborative workshop at the IASLC’s 17th World Conference on Lung Cancer in December in Vienna, Austria. The workshop is titled, “Comprehensive System of Care for Lung Cancer Patients Throughout the Cancer Continuum” and will be held on December 4th from 08:00 to 12:00.

The objective of the workshop is to produce recommendations on how to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to improve quality of care and clinical outcomes throughout the lung cancer care continuum (prevention to survivorship to palliative care), with recommendations being summarized according to these four themes: research; education; policy and advocacy; and community engagement and access to care for hard to reach.

The workshop will be guided by the current state of clinical practice and the multi-faceted needs of patients with lung cancer and their families, with a focus on lessons learned from BMS-F funded projects in the US and CEE, and potential global impact.

The outcome of this workshop will be prepared as a set of patient-centered recommendations to promote patient and provider engagement and improve lung cancer prevention, early detection, treatment decision making, symptom control, survivorship and palliative care from a systems approach.

Participants will engage in small group discussions to address questions related to implementing a system approach to care for patients with lung cancer in areas of education, research, community engagement, and policy and advocacy. Feedback from these discussions will be synthesized and recommendations presented before the workshop closes.
